Integrations
Connect Intercom
Turn Intercom chat visitors who leave their email into attributed leads. One authorization, no triggers to configure — LeadJourney stores the click ID on the Intercom profile and records a lead when the visitor gives their email.
Connecting Intercom turns every chat visitor who leaves their email into a lead, attributed to the ad click that brought them to your site. Leads flow through the same pipeline as your other conversions, so every ad postback you've configured picks them up automatically.
This is the simplest integration in LeadJourney: there is nothing to map. You authorize once and it runs.
Needs live chat tracking
The Intercom card only appears for workspaces with live chat tracking switched on. If you can't find it under Settings → Apps, that's why — switch it on first.
Before you start
- An Intercom workspace you can sign in to.
- Live chat tracking switched on in this workspace.
- Tracking is live – see Install the tracking script.
Where to find it
Open Settings → Apps, or go to
app.leadjourney.io/settings?slug=apps, and click
the Intercom card (or use ?slug=apps&app=intercom).
Step by step
Authorize LeadJourney from Intercom
On the Connect your Intercom workspace card, click Connect with Intercom, sign in and approve. You'll be sent back here once you approve.
LeadJourney also sets up a contact attribute called lj_click_id on your Intercom workspace
during this step.
Check that click attribution says “Ready”
The header shows four stats: Connection, Workspace (name and region), Click attribution and Connected since.
Click attribution is the one to look at:
- Ready – the
lj_click_idcontact attribute exists. Chat leads attribute to the exact ad click. - Email only – the attribute couldn't be set up, so leads are matched by email instead. Click Re-authorize to retry.
How chat leads are recorded
The LeadJourney tracking script stores the visitor's click ID on their Intercom profile
(lj_click_id). When they give their email in the Messenger, Intercom notifies LeadJourney and a
Lead is recorded as “Live chat (Intercom)” – once per Intercom contact. Without a
click ID, the lead is matched by email.
One lead per contact, not per conversation
A visitor who comes back and chats again doesn't create a second lead. That keeps a chatty customer from inflating your lead count.
Troubleshooting
Click attribution shows “Email only”
The lj_click_id contact attribute could not be created in Intercom. Click Re-authorize in
the header to retry it. Until then, leads still arrive – they're just matched by email.
The Intercom card isn't on the Apps page
Intercom is only listed for workspaces with live chat tracking switched on.
Chat leads arrive but aren't attributed
Check that the tracking script is live on the pages where the Messenger runs – it's the script that writes the click ID onto the Intercom profile. See Missing leads.
